ROCC C.L.I.M.B.E.R.S
The Residents of Color Collective (ROCC) proudly presents the ROCC Climbers program—a transformative leadership initiative designed specifically for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth. Our mission is to nurture young leaders who will CREATE, LEAD, INSPIRE, MOTIVATE, and BUILD a more equitable and vibrant world around them.
Program Highlights
1. Language and Self-Expression
Basic Swahili Learning:
We believe that language connects us to our roots and fosters cultural pride. Through basic Swahili lessons, our youth gain a deeper understanding of African heritage and linguistic diversity.
Self-Expression Through Writing:
Creative expression is a powerful tool. Our participants explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences through writing, developing their unique voices and narratives.
2. Financial Literacy
Empowering Financial Skills:
Understanding money management is essential for future success. ROCC Climbers learn practical financial literacy, including budgeting, saving, and making informed financial decisions.
3. Nature-Based Activities
ROCC 2 Nature:
We encourage a love for nature among youths of color and underserved communities. Through free nature-based community activities, we connect our participants with the outdoors, fostering environmental awareness and appreciation.
Learning Opportunities at Their Doorsteps:
We bring nature education directly to those living in apartment complexes. In partnership with Dakota County Parks and Dodge Nature Center, we offer enriching experiences that inspire curiosity and stewardship.
4. Cultivating Healthy Habits
ROCC Climbers Garden:
Our garden program promotes healthy eating and self-sufficiency. Guided by Dodge Nature Center Master Gardeners, youth learn real gardening skills, from planting to harvest. All produce grown is donated to families facing food insecurities.
5. Bridging Generations
Climbers and the Gap:
Relationships between generations are vital. This program focuses on breaking down cultural barriers and bridging gaps between youths and seniors. Through shared experiences and understanding, we build stronger communities.
Connecting Youth
Healthy Climbers (Coming this Spring):
Stay tuned for our upcoming initiative, Healthy Climbers, which will further empower our youth through health and wellness activities.
After School ROCC:
We’ve partnered with school district ISD 197 to make our leadership program accessible. Currently, we operate at Heritage and Friendly Hills Middle School once a week.
At ROCC, we believe that investing in our youth today creates a brighter, more inclusive tomorrow. Join us in shaping the leaders of the future! Age requirement: 9 - 15 (3rd grade - 8th grade)
*We host summer programs and events for youth of all ages, Complete form to stay updated.
HealthyC.L.I.M.B.E.R.S is a youth empowerment initiative hosted by Resident of Color Collective (ROCC) via ROCC Climbers Leadership Program in collaboration with Dakota Child and Family Clinic (DCFC).
Dakota Child and Family Clinic saw the need to create a judgment-free space for emerging young adults ages 13 to 24 who identified as BIPOC to learn life skills and thrive collectively as community leaders.
HealthyC.L.I.M.B.E.R.S was co-created to empower and equip emerging young leaders with leadership and life skills to establish their ideal healthy community.
HealthyC.L.I.M.B.E.R.S’ Youth Empowerment Program mission
Provide a judgment-free and safe space for emerging BIPOC young leaders to hold open conversations from a place of curiosity to identify self-love, establish safe boundaries, practice healthy communication and to respect other’s choices.
HealthyC.L.I.M.B.E.R.S seeks to empower participants to speak transparently and question information they received and not be misinformed- specifically when it comes to their outlook on healthy relationships, leadership and self-development.
HealthyC.L.I.M.B.E.R.S will consist of a youth program and parents and caregivers' education & support workshop.
